Passenger's Guide

Passengers with special needs

When making a reservation or purchasing a ticket, inform the airline, tour operator, or authorized travel agent if you need special assistance, such as: meals, assistance for passengers with reduced mobility, unaccompanied children, pregnant women, and other specific needs.

Pregnant Women

If you are pregnant, it’s important to contact the airline and your doctor before purchasing the ticket, as there are transportation restrictions.

It is not advisable to travel after 32 weeks of pregnancy, although some airlines may be more restrictive and set limits lower than 32 weeks. They may request a medical certificate or, in some cases, a liability waiver, so it’s essential to inform yourself with the airline about the procedures to avoid any issues.

Unaccompanied Children

Airlines have their own procedures for accepting unaccompanied children, meaning children who are not traveling with an adult. These procedures may set age limits or be based on the destination.

It’s important that when making a reservation or purchasing a ticket, you inquire whether the airline provides a service for unaccompanied minors and what the conditions and procedures are.

Passengers with Reduced Mobility – PRM

PRM refers to any person whose mobility is limited when using a means of transport due to a physical (sensory or locomotor, permanent or temporary), intellectual disability, or any other cause of incapacity, age, or illness. Their condition requires adequate attention and the adaptation of services provided to all passengers to meet their specific needs.

PRM includes, but is not limited to:

  • People with mobility difficulties;
  • People with visual impairment;
  • People with hearing impairment;
  • Pregnant women;
  • Nursing mothers;
  • Elderly people;
  • People recovering from illness;
  • Obese individuals;
  • People traveling with children.

PRMs are responsible for notifying the airline or agent, or tour operator, preferably at the time of booking or at least 48 hours before boarding, about their specific assistance needs. In some cases, a medical declaration may be requested.

The airport management, airlines, and operators must ensure that PRMs are provided with adequate assistance and information throughout their journey to ensure their physical and moral integrity.
