Praia International Airport was renamed in 2012 to Praia International Airport – Nelson Mandela, to honour the man who played a very relevant role in the defence of equality, tolerance and freedom, thus also constituting a “relevant milestone” in relations between Cape Verde and South Africa. Located on the island of Santiago, about 3 km northeast of the city centre of Praia, capital of Cape Verde, it replaced the old Francisco Mendes airport on 23 October 2005.

It has a runway 2,100m long and 45m wide, which allows it to receive up to six medium-sized aircraft on its platform. With a capacity to handle about 1,300 passengers per hour, both domestic and international flights, this airport, which is located at an altitude of 95 metres above sea level, is ready to welcome you, so that you can explore the largest island in the Cape Verde archipelago and enjoy everything it has to offer.
