Checked baggage
Leave in your checked baggage what you don’t need on hand.
When traveling by plane, your baggage is stored in the aircraft’s hold. While you can pack everything that is not essential to have in the cabin, there are weight limits, restrictions on certain items, and rules you need to be aware of to ensure you can bring everything necessary for your trip.
Are there limits for checked baggage?
Yes. You should always check with your airline before traveling, as baggage allowances vary depending on your destination, airline, or travel class. These limits may include the number of pieces and weight per bag.
I have special baggage. What should I do?
If you are traveling with sports equipment, musical instruments, pets, or other types of special or bulky baggage, it is highly recommended to contact your airline before traveling. This way, you will know about costs, weight and size limits, procedures, and required documents to ensure a smooth check-in process.
My baggage did not arrive or was damaged.
If your baggage was lost or arrived damaged due to airline handling and not due to pre-existing defects, you must file a claim with your airline:
- Within 7 days of baggage delivery for damage claims;
- Within 21 days if your baggage was delayed.
Are there any prohibited items in checked baggage?
Yes. For security reasons, passengers are not allowed to carry explosive materials or incendiary devices in their checked baggage.
Additionally, some items prohibited in carry-on baggage may be allowed in the hold. Since restrictions are less strict in checked baggage, verify the list of prohibited items before packing.
