Fogo

Fogo Island has one of the greatest symbols of the country: the imposing active volcano, which has the village of Chã das Caldeiras at its feet. The Fogo Volcano is the highest point in the archipelago. To visit it, the best option is to hire a local guide.

São Filipe is the main town on Fogo Island. There, you can find some points of interest, such as the local church or the colonial houses that aim to keep the island’s history and its people alive, the Municipal Museum, or the House of Memory.

Any visitor to the volcano island must make sure to explore the villages, the Fogo Natural Park, Ribeira Filipe, the natural bridges of Salinas, and the black sand beaches. Try the Chã wine, ponche, and goat cheese. Participate in festivals and processions like the Flag Festival, Bandeirona, Fogo Coffee Festival, Lantcha Beach Festival, Prison Festival, among others.

On Fogo, we have the São Filipe Aerodrome, which only receives domestic flights. One way to reach the island is by plane. You can also choose to travel by boat from Santiago Island.
